Quantity Surveyor
The interview process went smoothly, even though some questions were tricky. It's important to prepare, but the hiring managers were very friendly. It was a 3 stage process, and meeting the Managing Director on the third stage is always a good sign at a large company.
- What makes you want to be in the construction industry?
Principal Engineer
I applied online through another job site and was quickly contacted by a recruitment agency. The initial screening included a Skype call. This was followed by two in-person interviews: the first with a senior engineer and manager, and the second with the head of the department and another manager. The whole process was quite fast, around 3-4 weeks, though it could have been shorter if my client projects hadn't been so demanding. I found the discussions to be open and frank, not overly difficult. I received a verbal offer about two days after the final interview, with the official paperwork following three days later.
- Can you share an instance where you initiated and implemented a change?
- Describe a situation where you were caught off guard and how you handled it.
- Tell me about your working relationships with project managers.
HSE Advisor
So I went in for what I thought was the interview, but turns out it was just the first of two interviews. It was a panel interview with two people, pretty chill vibe. One was the guy doing my job who was leaving, the other was a senior manager. Anyway, I apparently did okay because I got through to the next round. They told me there'd be a third interview if I got through that one! I asked about feedback and they said sure, but I never heard back. My emails were ignored, which was a bummer. They mentioned only 6 people got to the second interview, and only 2 would move on to the third. Honestly, it's not too much to ask to let the 4 people who didn't make it know, especially after they took time off twice. Really unprofessional.
- Can you share an example of a competency-based situation regarding health and safety?
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a standard competency based scenario.
Graduate Engineer
The selection process had 4 rounds. First was an online Math and Aptitude test, which was a general math and english test not needing specialized knowledge. Second, a telephonic interview with questions about customer satisfaction and corporate aptitude. Third, an online emotional IQ test to see how you respond to certain situations. Finally, the graduate assessment day at the head office, which included a group discussion where we had to solve puzzles together, a personal interview with technical questions, and another personal interview with HR.
- Can you tell me about a project you managed?
- What would you do if a customer changed their mind at the last minute, causing you to go over budget?
