Getting an interview was tough; a referral or knowing someone usually helps you get to that stage. The actual conversation was pretty chill, and we mostly just chatted to get to know each other. I felt good about the interview, and there was plenty of time at the end to ask my own questions.

I applied online and got a quick call from HR. After a few weeks, I interviewed on Zoom with the hiring manager about the role. Then, I had another Zoom interview with their boss, the department VP, who asked for references and for me to do an Excel skills test, which I sent to HR. They mentioned a fourth round with the team. I didn't get an offer and found out my references weren't contacted.

I went through 4 interviews, the first two happened in the same week. After that, I heard nothing for over a month, despite following up via email. Then, just over a month later, I got an invite for the third interview, and a week after that, for the fourth with the SVP. The last interview was a disaster; the SVP seemed completely uninterested. It was cut from 60 minutes to 20, he kept yawning, and greeted people walking by while I was speaking. I doubt he absorbed anything I said. The earlier interviews and the team were great, but the final one was a huge letdown. I knew then I wouldn't get the job because the SVP clearly didn't care. The whole thing dragged on for over two months, which felt like a waste.

I was contacted by the VP of the department and we met just once for lunch, and I got the job offer about a week later over the phone. We have a lot of common acquaintances and business partners who helped with the process. We discussed the development of the marketing staff.
