First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Internet Brands.
Product Manager
I went through the entire interview process for this company for about two months. They required an assignment where I had to complete a full report on how to improve their product. I had to sign an agreement stating they could use my work and I would have no rights to it, essentially doing free labor. After all that, they presented an offer that was 20% less than my initial stated salary. The HR then mentioned trying to secure a bonus. The following day, they rescinded the offer, deciding to proceed with an internal candidate instead. This was highly unprofessional.
- Made me sign an agreement and write a report to improve their product.
Product Manager
I applied through LinkedIn and heard back from the recruiter pretty quickly. They emailed me to set up a phone screen. This call was pretty standard - they asked about my background, schooling, and what I'm up to now. After that, the recruiter mentioned they'd send my info to the hiring team. A few days later, they let me know the team was interested. Then, I got a take-home assignment with a three-day deadline. Once I submitted it, I heard back a couple days after that to schedule an onsite interview for the next week. During the onsite, I met with three interviewers who wanted to discuss my approach to the take-home assignment, my past college projects, and my overall product experience. I waited about a week for the final decision. The recruiter was really responsive and helpful throughout the whole process, which was great.
- How would you enhance Google's recipe search functionality?
Product Manager
I applied online and heard back from a recruiter to schedule a phone screen. The recruiter went through my employment history starting from college. They asked about my salary expectations and some general product questions. They said they wanted to move forward but needed a case study, which involved describing a product I'd worked on. Honestly, it felt like a waste of time given my 10+ years of experience and the fact that all my past projects are readily available online. After sending the case study, I waited a week and followed up via email and voicemail, but got absolutely no response. It was really unprofessional. It seems like they post the same jobs every year and are probably trying to hire less experienced people for lower pay. If you have experience, I wouldn't bother applying because they seem to prefer recent grads. It feels like a business model that promotes high turnover and uses clickbait tactics to aggregate other sites.
- What are you currently earning?
- Tell me about a product you've developed.
