First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Intercontinental Exchange.
Risk Analyst
I interviewed with an analyst and a VP from the ICE Clear Europe team. The questions were mainly about financial knowledge of the markets the role would cover, like commodities and especially oil, plus some technical coding questions.
- Can you explain the function of a clearing house?
Risk Analyst
I applied directly online through their career page. Then, I had a brief phone call with the recruiter. I reached the third stage of the interview process, and each stage was with two different team members who had increasing seniority. All the interviews were online via Webex. I'd recommend that they apply more structured approach to interviews, with less open questions and less repetition. For example, at each of the three stages I was asked to go through my CV and relevant experience and if I knew about derivatives and option pricing theory. In terms of testing programming skills required for the role, they should have some separate tests and not just judging subjectively if a person has the skills or not. Last, but not least, it made me a negative impression that at the third stage interview, one of the senior managers was having his lunch while interviewing me on the video call.
- Can you discuss derivatives pricing and the models used?
- What are your programming skills and can you share sample projects you worked on?
- Tell me about clearing house products, risk management, and the waterfall concept.
Risk Analyst
Started with a phone interview, and then had an in-person interview. They asked both technical and behavioral questions in both rounds. The interviewers were professional and knowledgeable, and asked relevant questions based on my background and experience. I appreciated that they didn't ask about topics I hadn't covered before, like advanced math.
- What's your method for calculating Value at Risk (VaR)?
