Engineering Manager
Interviewed end of May 2024. The whole thing was virtual, and had a few stages: Technical Project Review, Values Assessment Session, Strategy & Planning, and a Role Chat + Wrap up. I spoke with some engineering and product managers. They asked about handling difficult people situations and some scenario-based questions about system failures and project delays. I finished all the interviews, but then there was just silence, no feedback, and my follow-up emails about the end of the process were ignored. The interviews themselves were good, but the process was terrible for me.
- What steps would you take with your team to troubleshoot an application failure?
Engineering Manager
The interview process started with a screener, then moved to a virtual on-site. The on-site consisted of two 45-minute interviews: one for Technical Management and one for People Management. The People Management interview was a standard discussion about your experience and how you handle various situations. The Technical Management interview involved a hypothetical scenario, which was not highlighted in the preparation guide, so be ready for it!
- What steps would you and your team take to resolve an intermittent bug in the product, assuming the database is suspected?
- Can you describe your experience and how you handle typical people management situations?
- How would you approach a hypothetical technical management scenario that isn't detailed in the prep guide?
Engineering Manager
Had a people ops phone call, then a management phone call, followed by a technical phone call, and finally an in-person interview. Overall, it was a good use of time. I learned a lot about Intercom's product and culture. The in-person interview was pretty intense, so be prepared for that.
- Can you describe how you would approach solving this particular problem?
- Please share an instance of a conflict you experienced and how you resolved it.
- Could you provide a detailed explanation of a past technical design you were involved with?
