This company felt like it was playing games with recruitment. The process had 4 steps: first a recruiter call, then the hiring manager, then the CSO, and finally an onsite presentation (45 minutes) followed by multiple interviews (7). They made me sign an NDA. The whole thing took a bit over 2 months from application to decision. The interviews themselves went great. The onsite presentation also went great, or so I was told. The recruiter then let me know they chose another candidate. They wouldn't give feedback because of 'company policy'. It's weird because the job is still posted online nearly 3 weeks later.

Started with a nice recruiter call, she asked about my background and experience in some specific areas. Then had a technical interview with the hiring manager, who asked more about my experience. The last interview was also technical, with a cybersecurity specialist who knew a lot about security. They asked me some questions about SIEM, data protection, and the NIST framework.

Got a referral so skipped the initial recruiter screen. Had a 30-min chat with a hiring lead for a different role, but they considered me for this one. Next was a technical screen focused on stats and Python familiarity, where they were helpful. Then a ~6-7 hour virtual panel over 2 days (originally onsite). It included a 45min presentation on my PhD research with questions interspersed, and ~10 separate 30min meetings with people from different fields. Didn't need to know everything, and it was okay I was rusty on some ML concepts.

It was a reasonable number of rounds but the HR was disorganized. It felt like a different recruiter each round. I wasn't prepared for the nature of each interview session, like product design vs. behavioral questions vs. culture fit/growth. They didn't seem keen on being transparent. The interviewer was unclear about the interview duration and wasn't engaged. They sounded exasperated when they didn't hear exactly what they were looking for. I signed an NDA and the interviewer couldn't ask the question on 'what are your top 3 challenges,' saying they could tell because there's a lot of IP. Some general direction would have been helpful, at least.
