First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Inovalon.
Software Engineer
The process was really chill. Started with a Codility online assessment covering DSA and APIs. Then, a regular technical and behavioral interview. The recruiter was responsive, and everyone was helpful during the whole thing.
- What are some basic questions about DSA?
- Can you answer some trivia questions related to CS Fundamentals?
Software Engineer
Recruiter was super unresponsive, only reaching out for interview times and ignoring all my questions. They also wouldn't say what each round would cover. I ended up in a system design whiteboard round with a senior principal engineer, totally blindsided because I didn't know that was coming (their titles seem to be exaggerated). The first call was 45 minutes with a principal engineer who didn't even turn his camera on and just started grilling me with random quiz questions instead of asking about my background or projects. Naturally, the recruiter ghosted me at the end, which I kind of expected given their communication style throughout.
- We discussed improvements to 3 projects I was most proud of, then designed one system from scratch on a whiteboard website.
Software Engineer
The recruiter mentioned I'd have a 30-minute call with the hiring manager to talk about the job and see if I fit. But, when I joined the call, it was with a contract engineer who kept his camera off and immediately started grilling me with technical questions. He was pretty rude, asking things like, "What version of .Net do you use?" and then telling me their stack is version 6 but they're thinking of upgrading to 8, and asking "Why would you do that?" He also asked about my resume mentioning WPF, and when I said what project it was for, he was dismissive, saying "That’s a really old way of doing things, that isn’t used in real companies." He didn't give me any info about the role beyond the tech stack and then wanted me to start a screen share coding interview. When I tried to ask about the company first, he said he didn't know the salary or benefits. He also mentioned that while the job description says every third week on-call, in reality, it's 24/7. And when I asked about layoffs, he said reorganizations and layoffs happen constantly. I decided to end the interview there and didn't answer his technical questions.
- Can you tell me about your past projects and your experience with JavaScript?
- Tell me about your project history and if you know JavaScript.
