It started with a phone screening with HR where we talked about salary and the role. Then, there were three more interviews: one with the senior manager, another with the IT team and director, and a final one with the VP. Everything seemed to go well, and the staff were all really nice. But the problem is they'll have you go through 3+ interviews after you've already discussed salary, only to offer you $8,000 less than your initial expectations. And they wouldn't negotiate. So, be careful, you might be wasting your time.

Had a quick phone screen first, then about a week later I went in for a 2PM in-person interview. It was with two of the team's technicians. It felt like they hadn't interviewed much before, so they seemed a little awkward, but they were nice and told me a lot about their jobs. They asked me some general things about my background, but no actual technical questions, which was weird. The very next day I got a basic email saying I wasn't moving forward. Since they didn't ask much and didn't seem super keen to know my skills, I suspect they were mostly just checking if I'd 'fit in', whatever that means. I hope the fast rejection wasn't for any unfair reasons, though that's a worry.

I had an initial phone chat with HR just to see if I was a good fit. After that, I spoke with the VP of Sales over the phone. Then, I had an in-person meeting with the manager. The final stage was a group interview at the main office with a bunch of people: the President, CFO, CTO, VP of Sales, VP of Development, and the manager.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • The VP of Sales asked me if I would be alright with traveling, given that I have children, and the way she phrased it made it clear that work/life balance wasn't a priority for her.
  • I inquired with the VP of Sales about whether the prior individual in the sales territory I was applying for remained employed by the company and if they achieved their sales quota during their tenure in that territory.

I had two interviews. The first one focused on technical stuff, like inheritance in Java or how SQL databases are normalized. The second interview was more about personal things, like my past projects, if I had led a student team before, or what I wanted to do in the future.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Why might someone choose to denormalize a database?
