First, there was a telephone interview where I was asked questions about my previous work experience and what I was looking for. Then, I had an in-person interview which felt more like a sales pitch to get me to join. We discussed their specific pedagogy a bit, but mostly it was about administrative requirements and logistics. They didn't go into much detail on methodology, which I found out later on YouTube, and I think it's worth checking out before accepting an offer.

I had an on-the-spot interview when I visited the site. They immediately stated that the school only hires native speakers. Even though I have years of experience in the UK and internationally, plus Cambridge qualifications, they suggested I teach my native language, which isn't my specialization or interest. They discussed the contract type and job conditions, but mentioned that they and other centers in Florence prefer not to hire non-native English speakers. It was a really disheartening and demeaning experience where I felt undervalued.

I initially had a phone interview, then a face-to-face with the managing director. After many years in TEFL, this was the first time I met a school owner who was an educator. They expected me to be fluent in linguistics and pedagogy. The whole process was very professional, including checks on my educational certificates and past employment. The offer was good, and it was a bonus knowing I'd be working for an educator, not just a business person. I was sure I wanted to work for inlingua Singapore after the interview!
