First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ingersoll Rand.
Software Engineer Intern
The interview wasn't too intense. I spoke with two interviewers at once who asked questions, alternating between them. It started with personal questions and going over my resume, then moved to more technical ones. The technical questions were more focused on problem-solving approaches than specific technical knowledge. They gave me time to think through my answers.
- Describe your approach to resolving a challenging task within a group, and provide concrete examples from your experience.
Digital Marketing Specialist
Started with a recruiter who seemed promising and was easy to communicate with. After meeting the hiring manager, I felt like there was a good connection. The recruiter then made scheduling the next interviews smooth. I got to the final panel interview, but one person didn't show up. This last interview felt more like a formality, like they weren't really focused on hiring. Because of the holidays, I had to wait weeks to hear back after that. The recruiter gave a vague idea of when a decision might be made and then ghosted me when I followed up multiple times over the next few weeks. I ended up reaching out to the hiring manager for an update, but they also went silent after another follow-up. I finally got an HR rejection after being in the process for about two months.

Software Engineer
So basically, for software developer jobs, there were two main parts to the interview. First, HR talked to me to see how well I communicate, solve problems, and work with others. Then, there was a technical part with coding challenges and some logic/aptitude tests to check my programming skills and how I think. If you passed both of those, they chose people based on how they did overall. It really checked both the technical stuff and the softer skills needed for the job, using different ways to test.

Sales Manager
It was a long interview process for the Territory Sales Manager position. Almost a month into it, they added a second panel interview as a formality with little notice. This was after I was told by HR that I was their top candidate and that things were about to wrap up. The hiring manager and HR coordinator also told me I could reach out anytime for updates or questions. I had to follow up three times to find out another candidate was offered the job. I was eventually told I was their second choice and asked if I'd be interested in a new territory. I declined because my main contacts ignored my requests for updates, leaving me in the dark. The lack of consideration and courage to not even give me the bad news directly was very telling. I'm embarrassed for them on how this was handled. Dodged a bullet not working for this organization. Old companies with old ways never change. Hope future prospects learn from this, though I doubt a company this size will even care.
- Can you describe your most significant achievement using the STAR method?
