First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Information Builders.
Engineering Manager
I had a phone screen with a hiring manager, which went well. Then, I was invited for an in-person interview. The first part involved two interviewers who asked about my experience and some technical stuff, which was fine. After that, I had a one-on-one where we had a general chat and they hit me with some brain teaser questions. Honestly, I think brain teasers are outdated and a waste of time, a concept some big companies like Google and Amazon are moving away from. The interview just stopped after those questions, and I didn't even get to ask any questions. They just told me to leave, which felt pretty rude and unprofessional.
- Can you describe your background and experience?
- Would you be able to solve these brain teaser problems?
Contract Negotiation Specialist
It started with a recruiter call to discuss salary expectations. Then there were 2-3 more interviews with executives. The interviewers were great and spent a lot of time with me. They didn't ask any trick questions, focusing instead on my experience and how I'd fit the role. I felt like I was one of the top 2-3 candidates. My only complaint is the HR department's unprofessionalism; they never even followed up to let me know I was rejected, even after I'd invested 2 rounds and at least 4 hours with executives. HR said they'd be in touch either way, but they weren't. Some HR people seemed like mediocre sales reps who had moved to HR and were out of touch with how to treat people, which made me regret applying.

Sales Development Specialist
Had a recruiter phone screen, then a 30-min phone screen with the Director of Field Marketing Support Services. Then had a face-to-face interview with the same director, who was 15 minutes late. They grilled me before asking basic questions and told me to study certain terms beforehand. The next round involved a presentation about Information Builders in two weeks, and also creating a prospecting letter and filling out a questionnaire. I was offered to move forward but declined.
- Can you explain what ROI is?
Account Executive
First, I was contacted by an IBI recruiter and had a quick 15-minute chat. Then, I spoke with the hiring manager for about 45 minutes, where we discussed my background and successes in the industry. After that, I had a face-to-face meeting with the hiring manager for about 1.5 hours, followed by an hour with the VP of sales. Finally, I spent 3 hours in an interview session with Senior Executives. It was a really positive and thorough process.
- Tell me about the most interesting deal you've ever worked on.
