Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Informatica.
UI Developer
I applied online and heard back from a recruiter in a couple days. The recruiter set up a phone interview with a UI team engineer, which lasted about an hour and included some technical questions. The next week, the recruiter arranged an on-site interview which consisted of 4 technical rounds with UI team engineers. After the interviews, the hiring manager indicated I'd receive a response in about 4 business days. Five business days later, I emailed the recruiter for an update and was asked to wait another day. A week later, I had to email again and was told to wait another day. After two more business days, I was informed they had selected another candidate.
- Tell me about your experience with Javascript.
- Can you answer some basic CSS questions?
- What are some common data structures?
Front End Developer
It all kicked off late last year. First, there was this easy online assessment, followed by a Skype call where they asked some basic algorithm stuff. Then I had my onsite interviews last week. All 3 of the technical interviews were focused on designing things. The HR, manager, and lunch chats were pretty chill.
- Can you explain preorder traversal?
- How would you implement an LRU Cache?
- What's your approach to designing a chess game?
Senior UI Developer
It was a pretty good experience and didn't take too long. They only selected a few candidates out of about 25 people who were there at the time. However, the panel seemed a bit arrogant, and I think they might lose out on good candidates because of it. One panelist was defining basic JavaScript terms and expecting the candidates to repeat the same definitions.
- What would be the output of this JavaScript code snippet: var x; var y = function() { return { z: 10, x: function () { console.log('x'); } }; } y(); x();
