The interview process was technical and centered around the project I applied for. It started with basic questions and then dove into conceptual and deep understanding of the subject matter relevant to the discipline. There were three interviewers, all professors, who asked questions about the subject. The focus was also on my project work and any prior internship experience. If my past job experience was relevant to the project, they asked questions from that as well.

I was interviewed for a PhD Student role in the Earth Sciences department. The interview was with a panel of 5 professors who are experts in different areas of geology. It was a relaxed interview, and they asked me about my past experiences with field geology in Nagaland and Meghalaya, India, as the PhD position I applied for is in a sedimentology lab that involves fieldwork in Northeast India. They also asked about my dissertation, projects, and internships from my previous degrees.
