I was referred in December 2019. On Jan 14, 2020, HR called to set up a phone screen for Jan 20th, after which I sent a thank you note. In February, I was called for an interview with the hiring manager. On Feb 20th, 2020, I first met with HR (same person from phone screen) and got asked many of the same questions as the phone interview. She mentioned this should be the final set of interviews unless the hiring manager had other ideas. That night, I sent thank you notes to both. Second, I met with the hiring manager. We had a great chat and seemed to connect well, even discussing places to take kids, which went a bit over time. She mentioned needing to fill the role in 1-2 weeks and wanted to bring people back within that timeframe to meet 3 clients and the rest of the team. By Feb 27th, I hadn't heard back, so I left a message for the HR interviewer, with no reply. On March 4th and 11th, I emailed the HR interviewer and hiring manager for an update, but still no reply. Due to the COVID19 lockdown, I waited until mid-April for things to settle, then left another message and emailed both parties again. No response. I waited another 2 weeks and emailed them again. Nothing. The first week of May, after looking up an HR Director on LinkedIn, I emailed them asking for a status update, mentioning that ghosting was a big problem before the lockdown, but I'm sure that's not something they do. Still no reply. So, ghosted.

The interview process included a single in-person meeting that lasted approximately 30 minutes. During this meeting, I spoke with the hiring manager in a casual discussion. They shared details about the job and inquired about my background and previous experiences. It was beneficial to come prepared with questions. Some questions I asked were about why the manager enjoys working there, the main challenges the role presents, and what makes the job engaging.

The interview was pretty standard. They hit me with the usual Business Analyst questions, like asking about the difference between functional and business requirements, how to set up a JAD session, what kind of requirements I've developed, and the different parts of a requirements document. There were also a few situational/behavioral questions thrown in. They asked about the SDLC phases, diagrams I've used, and the pros of Use Cases compared to a Requirements document, plus who a Use Case is better suited for and why. They also asked about different diagram types. Two interviewers were there, and they kept the questions straightforward. I didn't nail my delivery, so I probably didn't come across as confident enough, which is why I didn't get the job.
