The process had three steps: I was found on LinkedIn by a recruiter from Brazil. There was a recruiter interview, an online test, and then an interview with the manager. At least that's what happened in my case. The whole process was kind of a joke. They never tell you anything about your status, you just get ghosted. The manager interview was the worst, asking super specific questions like we're supposed to be encyclopedias instead of checking our actual experience, portfolio, and understanding of concepts. Worst experience ever.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

Got a call from a recruiter quick after posting my resume. He set up a phone screen with HR, just basic stuff about what I want. Then a tech screen with the hiring manager the next day, pretty short, mostly basic Java and OO, nailed it. That Friday was the in-person interviews in Atlanta. Started with the hiring manager, nice guy, talked J2EE, Spring, Hibernate, Struts, Oracle - I knew my stuff. Then went downhill. Interview with the Director was like getting free consulting, asking about revamping their build/integration environment using build automation, Hudson, JUnit, Maven. He even asked me to present my current system! Felt like I was doing free consulting. Then I hung out with the HR guy cause the VP was busy. Took time off work for this! HR told me after 30 mins the VP couldn't make it, so back to the Director. He kept asking the same build/test automation questions for another 30 mins, pushing me on improving their process. Left feeling iffy. Got a call Monday, the VP wanted to interview me, could I come in again? Didn't want to take more time off, but he promised 9 AM so I could get back to work. Said it was formal, talked salaries. Was that a trick to get me back in? The VP interview was 30 mins, all about managing juniors, status reports, performance management. Not what I expected for a Lead role. Left wondering if I wanted to work there. Never heard back, didn't chase it. My advice: unless you're desperate, look elsewhere.

I had an onsite interview at their office and spoke with David Bergert, the CTO of InComm's On-Line Strategies division, for over an hour. We discussed technology and the group's specific needs, noting their forward-thinking approach and use of new technologies. They needed to improve their deployment process, and David was open to new ideas. Their industry has unique technology demands due to payment processing security. David was friendly and talked about their product architecture and his expectations for the new hire. About a week after the interview, I received an offer from their hiring department. I declined the job for two reasons: the salary was about $10k below my target, and there was an unusual arrangement with the sales team. Most of the programming team worked remotely, outside of Dallas. However, a manager in the local Dallas office insisted I come into the office despite the rest of the team being remote. This seemed odd and suggested potential internal issues.
