Partner Account Manager
I got a call from the recruiter on LinkedIn for the Partner Account Manager I role. She mentioned that they move fast, so I had a 1.5 hour in-person interview that day at their Atlanta office. I met with the Sr. Director of Account Management, a Global Product Manager, and the VP Digital Content. It was kinda weird, they took me around different rooms and just had me talk about my resume. They didn't ask many typical interview questions, more like how my background fits their business. A few days later, they had me come back for another in-person interview where I had to give a 10-15 minute sales presentation. Before that, I met with two people who used to do the job, not sure if it was for them or me. The presentation went fine, and they asked a couple follow-up questions. Two days after that, I got a call saying they wanted to make an offer. It wasn't clear if it was negotiation time, but I did mention my desired salary. The offer was close, but not quite what I asked for in base salary, though it did include a 10% quarterly bonus. Because the process felt disorganized and unclear, I was hesitant about leaving my job to accept. I tried to get more info by asking to speak with someone currently in the role, but they kept dodging and said no one was available. They asked me to send my questions in writing, which I did, but the recruiter just called back to try and answer them poorly and calm my worries. In the end, I trusted my gut and turned down the offer, even though the salary was pretty good.
- If emails don't get a response, how many attempts do you make before calling someone or asking a coworker for help?
Account Manager
First there was a recruiter phone call, then I met with the hiring manager and a team member. The skills that were discussed in the interview weren't actually part of the job once I started. Management did a poor job of representing what the role actually involves day-to-day. The title itself was not accurate to the daily tasks and was misleading for my decision to take the job.
- What is your comfort level with giving presentations to clients?
- What is your comfort level with traveling?
National Account Manager
The interview process was thorough. I had an initial phone screen with HR. After being informed that I would move on to the next round, I had a group interview with 3 members of the team in the offices and a phone interview with one member who was traveling. Throughout the process, everyone was extremely professional. The team was adamant about seeking someone who was able to deal with adversity and manage expectations accordingly. Since the members leaned on each other for execution, identifying someone who would fit into the team and culture appeared to be a key requirement. My only criticism is that HR failed to contact me to inform me that I was not selected for the position, despite advancing to the 2nd round of interviews.
- Can you describe a time you had to give a client bad news about something outside of your control and how you managed it?
