Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IMEC (Belgium).
Intern
There are long interviews to go through, where you are asked questions on the spot for you to solve, which are related to their projects, but it's difficult because it's impossible as a student to know that much about these projects, and even if you pass the interview, there is a chance that you will be rejected due to export controls.
- Do you have knowledge of xxx, where xxx refers to a technology used in their project?
Intern
This was an easy interview. It lasted about 20 minutes and didn't involve any technical questions. They asked a few things about my interest in IMEC, my aspirations beyond the specific role, salary expectations, visa needs, and the expected duration.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in IMEC?
- Besides the outlined work, are there any other activities or areas you're keen on pursuing?
- What are your stipend expectations?
Intern
I met the whole team on Teams. After I introduced myself, they asked me about my background, what classes I've taken, and what research I'm interested in. It wasn't too formal since it was just an introductory call, and the role is academic-focused.
- Can you tell me more about your CV?
- Questions related to your CV were asked.
