Research Assistant
It started as a call for summer internships in the Applied Mechanics department. There are 3 positions available. The successful applicants are awarded the internship based on merit. The interns then meet the professors they want to work with and decide on a project. In most cases, it's not going to be a significant contribution given the duration of 3 months.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Research Assistant
The interviewer asked me to optimize some code to reduce comparisons. I started explaining the Tournament Approach, mentioning it uses (3n/2 - 2) comparisons to find min and max. My explanation wasn't clear, and they kept asking how I was approaching it. I suggested dividing the array in half, creating min and max arrays from each half, and then finding the overall min and max. This part confused them and became the main focus of the interview.
- Could you optimize this code to minimize comparisons?
- What are the concepts of linear algebra relevant to this role?
- What are the concepts of calculus relevant to this role?
Research Assistant
I applied for this job after seeing an advertisement in the paper. I got shortlisted and then had an interview. On the interview day, the recruiting panel was already 1 hour late. I was the second person on the list. They asked me to introduce myself, then discuss my PG project and its future scope.
- Could you explain your motivation for applying to this position?
- What are your career aspirations after completing this employment?
