The first stage for selecting Ph.D. candidates in Biosciences was a joke. They didn't ask for any essays in the application. In stage 1, they asked 5 multiple-choice questions on a video call, which was the basis for selecting candidates for the Ph.D. position. The interview started before the assigned time and was over within minutes. I am highly unsatisfied with the whole process. They just test your memory and not the research acumen required for Ph.D.
