Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IHS Markit.
Java Developer
I went for the interview of Java developer profile. The process had 3 rounds. The first round was easy. The second round was based on all the internal workings of collections. The third round started with basic questions but I could not clear it as I got really nervous.
- Can you reverse a string?
- What happens if a subclass's protected method is called using a superclass reference?
- Explain Equals and Hash code.
Senior Java Developer
I had an interview for a Senior Java Developer position that requires 4+ years of experience. Honestly, the whole experience was pretty bad. I went through two interviews, and both were focused on core Java, and I felt like I did really well in both. But then, I was told I didn't pass the second round. It was weird because the second interviewer didn't even seem that into it and just fired off questions super fast, which isn't really a great way to interview someone.
- Tell me about Core Java.
- Can you explain multithreading concepts?
- What do you know about thread pools?
Java Developer
Had one telephonic round to check if I was a good fit, mostly looking at my resume and past project challenges. Then 3 rounds in person, lasted about 3 hours, with 3 interviewers. Later had another in-person interview focusing on past project details, explaining technical aspects with diagrams, and related technical questions.
- Can you show me how to implement a concurrent blocking queue?
- Describe how you would implement a web-service from start to finish, covering security, load balancing, and scalability.
- What's the difference between REST and SOAP, and when would you choose one over the other?
