Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at IHOP.
Manager
Had two interviews before getting an offer. First I met with the manager, then I met with the owner. Each interview was about 30-45 minutes. It was a typical interview. They asked me about my past experience and the responsibilities I had in previous jobs. They also discussed what they expected from me in this role.
- What's your favorite thing about being a restaurant manager?
Manager
The pay at IHOP is messed up. They take money out of your paycheck based on tips, and then claim they don't have to pay you the difference because you made enough in tips. Manager salaries are also not great, with some managers making less than cooks or servers. If you're hired as a server, they take taxes out of your manager salary, and the same applies if you're hired as a cook or dishwasher. The only good thing is that most IHOP locations are better than Denny's.
- What is wrong with you?
Assistant Manager
The interviewer was super nice and didn't have any pauses. They seemed really into it, even though they must've done tons of interviews. The only weird thing was the interview happening on the dining room floor while the place was open.
