First, I had a phone chat with HR. Then, I had two Zoom interviews with some industrial engineers who are in the role. The questions were pretty standard for most interviews. The format included discussing qualifications, tackling a problem, and asking them questions.

I got an initial phone screen invite in May 2014 via referral, but then got rejected in two weeks, probably because they didn't have projects for me. Then in late June 2014, an IET Inc. rep called again to see if I was still interested. I said yes, and she asked me a few questions before wanting an on-site interview. I asked for a video interview instead because IET Inc. wouldn't cover travel costs, which is tough for a recent grad. Thankfully, they agreed and set up a video interview. I expected feedback within a week but after chasing the rep for four weeks, I finally called her and she told me I wasn't moving forward.

It was a pretty boring interview. The interviewer was an undergrad student who was given goals to hire people. First, there was a telephonic interview with basic questions about your past experience. If you mentioned any manufacturing plant experience, you'd be called for a face-to-face interview. During the face-to-face, she gave a form to fill with questions about your ideal job and salary expectations, followed by an interview about what you filled in.

  • Can you tell me about your previous work experience and any projects you've worked on?
  • Are you familiar with CAD software?
  • Do you have any prior industrial experience, and how would it apply to this role?
