Executive Assistant
I interviewed for two different executive assistant jobs. The first one was with HR. It was okay, but I think they already hired someone. Then I interviewed for another assistant job and it was really bad. Two people interviewed me, one was nice, but the other was terrible. He said he didn't even read my resume and told me I wasn't qualified for the job, which was basically getting coffee and lunch. He kept saying I didn't have enough experience and asked how I even got the interview. I know I was new to this industry, but his unprofessionalism was too much.
- How did you manage to secure this interview?
Executive Assistant
I found the job on LinkedIn and heard back from the recruiter the very next day. The initial phone interview covered job expectations and my relevant experience. The recruiter said they'd recommend me to move on, and I'd hear back in two days. That call was about 15 minutes. The CHRO's assistant called the next day to schedule an in-person with the CHRO for the following Monday. This CHRO interview focused on personality and my ability to handle the role and the agent. It lasted 30-40 minutes. At the end, the CHRO asked if I was ready to meet the agent, which I was. The interview with the agent involved discussing my past industry experience, passions, and how I could help manage his desk. This lasted 25-30 minutes. I sent thank you emails to both, and they replied the same day. The next morning, the recruiter called to say the CHRO's assistant would call for a final interview. She called later that day and set it up for later that week. The final interview was with both the CHRO and the agent. It was again personality-based to see if my personality fit better with the agent's than other candidates. It went well and lasted 30 minutes. Before that, I had a final negotiation session with the recruiter about salary and benefits, which took 10-15 minutes. The recruiter called a few hours later to say I didn't get the job, but ICM loved me and the CHRO wanted to stay in touch for future roles. I sent thank you notes to the agent, CHRO, and recruiter that day. The following Monday, the CHRO emailed me, reiterating her desire to keep in touch.
- What music have you been into lately?
Administrative Assistant
It was straightforward, but the interviewer was no-nonsense. You should be ready to discuss your interests in the industry and the fact that you're willing to put in long hours. They're looking for people who understand the culture and are eager to get started with networking.
