Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ICF.
OCM Consultant
The interview process began with an HR screening involving both the primary recruiter and another recruiter. Following that, I had an interview with a client-facing manager and an in-house OCM subject matter expert. The interview itself was quite good; the managers seemed knowledgeable. However, the system for scheduling the interviews was a bit of a hassle. I kept getting emails over the weekend reminding me that my interview would be canceled if I didn't respond.
- Could you share your experience working with federal clients?

So I applied, mostly just submitting my resume. Then the recruiter contacted me to set up a screening call. After that, I had to complete an online questionnaire where they asked about why I wanted to work for ICF and my salary expectations. Then I had the screening call with the recruiter. The next step was the first interview with the hiring manager. All of that happened before I had this unstructured 35-minute "interview" with the hiring manager. They told me I'd hear back by the next week about moving to the second round. A few days later, the recruiter sent a really positive email saying the hiring manager was still interested and that I'd get an update the next day. Three weeks went by and I heard nothing. I emailed them again but got no response, even though the recruiter was usually super responsive by email, text, and phone. It felt misleading, dishonest, and disrespectful. It's not cool to treat candidates like that, and it reflects badly on ICF.
- Can you tell me why you're interested in ICF?
- What prompted your departure from your previous job?
- How passionate are you about EV charging?

A HR person called me and set up my interview for the next day. Then, a really rude Energy/Technical Specialist did a phone interview. She hadn't read my resume and when I was telling her about myself, she interrupted and said "You JUST graduated? Do you even have any experience?" (I was applying for an entry-level role and have consulting experience). She then seemed to check out and asked two more condescending questions. As we wrapped up, I asked her to spell her email for me, and she practically yelled it at me. I didn't hear back from them.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- Do you possess any relevant experience?
- Have you engaged with clients previously?
