Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Iceland Foods.
Software Developer
I had a day-long group hackathon. After that, I interviewed with some software engineering team members. It was a good experience overall, quite laid-back and designed to give a feel for working there.
- Can you tell me about your learning goals and what steps you're taking to achieve them?
- How has your experience with the interview process been up to this point?
Product Developer
I applied for the job online through their careers website. I got an email asking to set up an initial informal online interview via Microsoft Teams. The interview went well and the interviewer seemed very keen, saying she'd contact me in a few weeks after her holiday. However, weeks went by and I heard nothing. There was no update on the process, not even an email to say they'd progressed to the next round. Iceland, please update your hiring system. People spend time applying because they're interested in the role and company. Even a quick email update for transparency makes a big difference, which you clearly don't have in place.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
Software Developer
HR from Iceland contacted me on LinkedIn, mentioning I seemed like a good fit for their open Senior Software Developer positions. We had a 30-minute Teams call that went well; I answered all questions and felt confident about proceeding. Unfortunately, I didn't advance, with HR citing a lack of experience in a specific area, despite me providing examples. It felt like they were searching for an unattainable ideal candidate, expecting expertise in every single aspect.
