Mechatronics Engineer Intern
I had a phone interview with the recruiter first, mostly to chat about my projects and let me introduce myself. If they felt I was passionate and had relevant experience, they'd quickly move me on to the team lead. The team lead asked a lot of technical questions and probed my experiences. The lead didn't seem to have read my CV though, as they asked some questions totally unrelated to my background, but they were patient and willing to explain things.
- Which project did you like the most and which one did you like the least?
- Have you ever worked on smart battery projects?
- Can you explain your reasons for using type casting in C?
Talent Operations Specialist
I applied online and the recruiter reached out quickly to schedule a 15-min phone interview for a few days later. It was a chill chat, no tough questions, just getting to know each other, talking about my interest in the company and my experience. They said they'd be in touch about what's next. A few days later, I connected with someone from HR to set up a Skype interview, which happened about a week after that (I was in Florida, so it was on Skype). The whole thing took about 2.5 hours, talking to several people over 4 separate calls. It was a great process, no stressful questions, felt really conversational which let me be myself. They asked a lot about how my background would fit the team and why I wanted to be at Hyperloop One, focusing on personality and culture fit.
- What are your current job duties?
- What is your favorite part of your current job?
- What is your least favorite part of your current job?
Design Engineer
I applied online and got an email for a phone HR interview pretty quickly. They gave me limited time slots for the interview on Thursday or Friday, and I picked Friday to prepare. The interviewer was on time, introduced herself, and asked me to walk through my resume. The interview was structured well; she asked questions, then talked about the company, then asked more questions. This kept me engaged. She asked deep questions about my past work, which surprised me coming from HR, but I was ready. I haven't heard back or received any feedback, even after a month, which was disappointing.

Mechanical Engineer
I applied online and a recruiter reached out to schedule a technical interview. The interview was with a design engineer and was supposed to be 30 minutes, but it ended up going for an hour. It started with some chat about my resume, then got into some really hard questions about engineering basics, design, GD&T, solid mechanics, and thermal engineering. I couldn't answer most of them. About a week later, the recruiter let me know I wasn't selected.
- Can you walk me through your resume and tell me about an achievement you are most proud of?
- What are the sizes of assemblies you have worked on?
- Regarding thermal design, what are the modes of heat transfer?
