The HR person didn't really know what they were hiring for. After our first chat, I got an instant rejection email saying it was mainly front-end and required JavaScript knowledge. This was weird because I'd mentioned using React, Node, and Typescript, and she didn't seem to know what those were. Plus, it was supposed to be a full-stack role, not just front-end. Anyway, after I replied to the recruiter pointing out I do know JavaScript, they did send me a 200-minute HackerRank technical test with React-specific parts.

So first off, before I could even chat with anyone, I had to do this 2-hour HackerRank test. It was all about React and Node.js debugging and pretty tough. But you know, that's just how it is these days to get a human on the phone. Then the actual interview started! And get this, there were THREE interviewers, which I haven't seen in ages. It just felt like such a waste of resources, like, why do you need three people for one candidate? They did ask some decent questions though, like "Tell me about a project you worked on" and "What is one way you could improve an app". But then came the part that really bummed me out - they asked "What is the definition of useMemo?" and expected a word-for-word textbook answer. I mean, I've used it before, but I didn't have the exact definition memorized. Honestly, if you need three people to interview and kind of intimidate someone, and you think a HackerRank test followed by asking for specific definitions is the way to go, then this isn't the place. I just don't get how companies still think this is a good interview strategy. Glad I dodged this bullet.

They gave me good advice for every step so I knew what to expect and felt ready. The whole team was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable, making things easy and fun. Even though I didn't get the job, the recruiter was super professional and caring. They didn't leave me hanging like some do, but instead gave me really useful feedback on how I did and where I could improve for next time. Their feedback was delivered nicely and was genuinely helpful for my job search. It felt like they really wanted me to succeed, and I won't forget their efforts.
