First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hy-Vee.
Product Designer
I went through several rounds with Hy-Vee. The team seemed great, but the process took a long time and I never got a final response, basically being ghosted. The recruiter was really absent and didn't reply to my messages. The team members I met were nice, but the whole process felt disorganized and unreliable. Given that integrity is one of their core values, the lack of basic follow-up was disappointing. Honestly, I'm glad it didn't work out in the end.
- Can you introduce yourself, explain your interest in Hy-Vee, and answer some general questions?
Bakery Clerk
The interview consisted of standard questions. They asked why I wanted to work for Hy-Vee, about my availability, my strengths, and for an example of when I went above and beyond. It was a pretty laid-back interview.
- Why do you want to work for this position?
- What is your availability?
- What are your strengths?
Stocker
It was a pretty standard process. They asked me some basic questions about my previous stocking work, customer service abilities, and how I interact with people, pretty much what you'd expect for this kind of job. I spoke one-on-one with the store's HR manager. The interview was about half an hour, and I got to ask them some questions too.
- Can you tell me about your experience with stocking?
- What stocking experience do you have?
- How would you describe your customer service skills?
Software Engineer
The whole thing took about a week. It started with a recruiter call for a .NET full-stack role with a focus on React. The interviews leaned more towards frontend. Round 1 was a coding test via screen share, focused on React. Round 2 had technical questions, mostly scenario-based, plus past experience and challenges since it was for a senior role. Round 3 was with a Director, covering system designs, more scenarios, and behavioral stuff. Finally, Round 4 was an HR chat about the company and benefits.
- Can you tell me about react hooks and unit testing?
- What are your thoughts on unit testing for react?
