The interview process felt like a complete waste of time, like I was being interrogated by people who looked like Mormon missionaries or Boy Scouts, but they had this intense, almost menacing vibe. It seemed like they were trying hard to break me down and get me to confess something, asking things like what's my biggest weakness, biggest life failure, worst habit, and when I last broke the rules and what I did.

So I was a contractor for 8 months, and then a job opened up. I applied, and about two weeks later, I got a call to set up an interview. They also sent a confirmation email. The interview itself was a panel with three managers.

I had a phone interview first because the place was far away. I paid for my own travel to and from the interview. I'm sure they pay for travel for higher jobs. My supervisor, another supervisor, and their manager interviewed me. I had 23 years of experience and I think they already decided before I came. It was less than an hour and a half and they didn't give a tour. I got the offer in a week but it took 9 weeks to start because of the background check and physical. Maybe because it was December it took a while.
