There was a 30-min phone call initially to see if I'd be a good fit. Then, a 1 hour 15 minute video interview. The first part of that was 30 mins with some program alumni, and the next 45 mins was with my potential supervisor.

I found out about the job through a recruiter. The first step was a phone screen where I told them my salary expectation, which they said was "doable." Later that day, the recruiter texted me saying the base pay was a bit less, but that yearly raises would easily get me to my desired salary. After that, I had two interviews on Teams that went well, and I felt like the interviewers were impressed with my experience and knowledge of a key software solution, especially since I work for the company that makes it. Then, I was surprised to get an offer that was $25,000 lower than the salary I had initially shared. I tried to negotiate, but the recruiter didn't respond. About a week later, a manager from Huntington reached out asking why I hadn't accepted. I explained the situation, and she offered a small increase in salary and a much smaller bonus than I was initially told. When I questioned this, she cited gas savings from my mostly remote work, which I found odd since I already work 100% remotely. I believe compensation should be based on the value I bring, not on potential gas price fluctuations or my commute choices. I had clearly stated my salary needs upfront. It seems like either the recruiter misled me or failed to communicate my expectations to the hiring manager. The offer was even less than my current pay and would have been a lateral move for a senior role, ignoring my decade of experience and unique skills. I'm unsure if it was an intentional bait-and-switch or a major communication breakdown, but the entire experience felt unprofessional and like a waste of my time.

I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn because I had a similar job title at a competitor. There was one phone interview that led to setting up an in-person interview. They were helpful in getting everything arranged and it was done rather quickly. The interview process only lasted 2-3 hours start to finish and included 3 separate 1 on 1 interviews. They were open about questions and gave ample time to respond to the job offer.
