Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Humana.
Consultant
I applied for the job and heard back from a recruiter in about 3 business days. They scheduled a phone interview for the following week. The first interview was mostly about my background, like my resume, experience, and education. The recruiter was nice to talk to. Then, I was supposed to talk to the hiring manager. An in-person interview was set up about a week later, but the day before, they emailed to cancel it and said the hiring manager would do another phone interview instead. This second phone interview with the hiring manager was more about hypothetical situations and asking for examples of past actions. I figured it wasn't a good sign when the in-person meeting was called off.
- Can you share an instance where you utilized a particular skill?
- Describe a situation you encountered in the past.
Strategic Consultant
Applied online through the company site after seeing the role on LinkedIn. Two weeks later, I got a call to set up an initial phone screen with HR. Following that, I had a phone interview with the hiring manager. I was then brought onsite for interviews with managers and other consultants, which involved both 1:1 and 2-on-1 sessions. They mentioned that they fly candidates in on the same day, and I noticed another candidate waiting at the same time. After two weeks of no feedback, I reached out to the recruiter via email and received a rejection email that afternoon.
- What approach would you take to estimate the number of Medicare patients in Florida?
Consultant
I went through a full day of panel interviews, which involved several meetings with both small groups and individuals. The interviews were heavily technical, with less focus on behavioral aspects. There were also a notable number of 'brain teaser' type questions, riddles, and tricky questions designed to catch you out. My academic background (epidemiology) differed from most of the team's, leading some interviewers to assume I wasn't qualified despite my comparable statistics expertise. Despite multiple follow-ups, I never received any feedback on the outcome.
- Could you write SQL commands for a query of type [X]?
