The hiring process spanned five months. It started with an HR round that was mostly behavioral. Next, a coding test was given, covering ML, data processing, and Python. Then, an in-person interview at the office involved a resume walkthrough with the hiring manager and a presentation of my previous work. The final round was an interview with the lab director and HR, which was unstructured with some job description-related questions. Although the interviews themselves were easy, scheduling was a major issue due to disorganization, and there were some red flags. The HR repeatedly asked about my current salary even after I declined to share it. They also inquired about my experience with Chinese culture and colleagues, which seemed strange for an international company. During the F2F interview, I was asked to present slides, but the second interviewer was significantly delayed in joining due to not receiving the invitation. IT problems prevented her from seeing the slides remotely, negating the purpose of preparing them. In what felt like a 'cheap shot,' the HR used the director interview as leverage to get me to agree to a salary range, which was a poor start. After a month of silence and a reminder, I received a generic rejection email. Furthermore, it took them a month to reimburse my travel expenses.

I had an informal chat first, then a more formal interview with a senior research engineer and the hiring manager. The formal interview mainly involved a research talk. After that, I had a formal technical interview with the hiring manager. The last step was an HR interview. Everything seemed to go well. But after the HR part, the company went silent and I didn't get any updates. I emailed after a couple of weeks to ask about the decision, and the senior research engineer told me (kind of rudely) that they hadn't made a final decision yet and I shouldn't wait around for it. I haven't heard anything since.

It was a multi-step process. First, there was a screening, then a phone call with a manager. After that, I had a technical interview online, followed by a technical task to complete at home. Then an HR interview, and finally a technical presentation with HQs. The whole thing took about 1-2 months. The technical interview covered algorithms, data structures, machine learning, and C++ syntax/technologies.
