First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HoYoverse.
Brand Marketing
After applying and passing the task assessment, I had an interview with two people, one from Korea and one from China. They mostly spoke Korean but wanted me to respond in English, even though the job description only mentioned English skills and not Chinese. They also asked if I could speak Chinese. I felt like they were just trying to get ideas and it was a waste of time. I didn't like how I was treated and it didn't fit the company vibe I was looking for. I want to be treated with more respect.
- How would your event idea appeal to fans?
HR
I interviewed for an HR position and was surprised by the company's HR situation. A coordinator set up the interview, and a recruiter found my profile. The overall experience was neutral. The Head of People was very unprofessional during the interview; she kept looking at her hands, touching her eyelashes like she was checking a mirror, and seemed really uninterested. Her body language was terrible from beginning to end. Since it's a Chinese company looking for Chinese speakers, I expected better conduct from someone in such a senior role.
- Tell me about a time you had to negotiate with and manage a difficult stakeholder. What steps did you take?
Software Test Engineer
Had a self intro, then we chatted about my video gaming experience. Then they asked some basic questions about software testing. After that, I had to design test cases based on specific Genshin Impact in-game experiences.

Creator Partnerships Manager
The interview process for this role included four rounds: first a recruiter call, then a team lead round, followed by a VP & regional lead round, and finally a hiring manager round. My experience with the hiring process was outrageous, not because I wasn't hired, but because my time as a candidate wasn't respected after all. I applied in January and got rejected in May. The whole process took me 4 months, and I see the productivity is unacceptably poor. This period was conducted by 2 Zoom calls (1 recruiter and 1 team lead) and multiple email conversations about the delays due to internal reasons. My interviews also showed a severe communication problem between HR and business departments. Duties for this role from the job board, the recruiter and the team lead, changed all the time when I discussed the details with them. Plus, the interviewers didn't properly answer my questions. It shouldn't take a candidate 4 months to hear they are no longer considered. Don't waste their time.
