I went through an HR phone screen and then an interview with the Hiring Manager. The Hiring Manager seemed pretty checked out and bored during the interview (even yawning). They let me know I didn't get the job via phone and email during the holidays, which felt pretty insensitive. I asked for feedback but never heard back.

Behavioral Technical Coding

Had an HR interview where we talked about the company and its culture. It was okay. Then there was a cultural fit interview to discuss how I'd work in a team and my past experiences, which was great. After that, a technical interview happened. The interviewers were good but spent a lot of time explaining terms, which felt more like a university test and didn't seem like a good way to assess a candidate. I got a generic, disappointing rejection email from a no-reply address.

I applied in Poland. After a few weeks, I got an email saying they were going to remove me because I hadn't responded, but I emailed back saying there must be a mistake and I hadn't received anything. They agreed it was a mistake and we set up a phone call. On the day of the call, the recruiter asked to reschedule. When she finally called, she asked if I had prior experience in Polish squads and then said I wasn't a good fit. The job description only mentioned needing fluent Polish, and she didn't even talk to me to verify my level. Later, another recruiter reached out about a different opportunity. I explained what happened and expressed my continued interest. After two weeks, they responded, saying the local team decided I wouldn't be a good fit due to a lack of experience in local squads. From my perspective, this feels like discrimination based on nationality, especially from a US international company.

Behavioral Technical Coding System Design Presentation

It started with a mutual screening call. Then there was a technical interview with two people. We did a quick coding exercise to reverse a string, then discussed general Android topics, best practices, different types of flows, and project architecture. After that, I had a take-home assignment to build a small app using an API. The final part involved three back-to-back interviews: a brief chat with HR, a presentation of my app where I explained it and discussed potential changes, and finally a system design session where I had to design a system (both backend and app components) based on given requirements.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Regarding the app needing offline functionality, how would you approach its implementation, starting with the backend table design and then detailing the app-side setup?
  • In the scenario where two devices come online simultaneously, how would you handle syncing their information, and what approach would you take to manage any data conflicts that arise?
