First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hospital for Special Surgery.
Registered Nurse
I applied and then had an in-person interview with two unit managers. They discussed my experience and asked questions relevant to the new role. I got the offer about 10 days later.
- What are your 5-year career aspirations?
Registered Nurse
I applied online and then emailed HR. HR got back to me via email and phone, asking what I was looking for. I then scheduled an in-person interview for the next week. I had the interview with HR, and they asked questions for about 15-20 minutes. After that, HR had me take a medication administration test in a cubicle to see if I could move on. I passed and met with the unit manager for a second interview the same day. The manager asked similar questions to what HR had asked.
- Could you start by telling me a bit about yourself?
- Can you walk me through your experience?
- How would you manage challenging circumstances in the workplace?
Registered Nurse
The interview process included an initial phone screen, followed by an interview with HR, and then a final panel interview where I interviewed alongside another candidate. The team was really responsive and made me feel welcome throughout. The HR interview focused on standard nursing questions, including behavioral and personality-based inquiries. The panel interview presented critical thinking clinical scenarios and asked about my approach to escalating issues.
- What motivates your interest in working at HSS?
- Can you share an instance where you exceeded expectations to care for a patient?
- How would you handle a critical thinking clinical scenario and what steps would you take to escalate it?
