Honeycomb Software Engineer Interview Questions

I only made it to the manager interview. I think I was rejected because I didn't align with their very liberal culture. It's not that I have issues with anyone, but if you don't prioritize "diversity" above all else, you're not a good fit for them.

I first spoke with the hiring manager. After that, I had to complete a short assignment, which involved working on one of their open-source repositories. I was told to limit my work to two hours. Then, I had an interview where I discussed my assignment submission with two interviewers. Following that, I went through a panel interview with four people, involving two separate one-on-one interviews, to meet other team members.

It was a really pleasant interview process. Everyone was super nice, which is great because sometimes in these tech interviews, people can be a bit cold. It started with a recruiter call to go over my general background. Then, I spoke with the hiring manager, which was mostly about my experience, no tricky questions, just a nice chat. After that, there was a take-home assignment they said should take about 1.5 hours. It wasn't timed or recorded, which I really liked. Basically, I had to clone a GitHub repo and solve some problems in a React App, like fixing a function to send data correctly using something like useContext because the data came from a parallel component. The problems were fair and let me connect the app's data to Honeycomb's platform, which was a cool way to learn about the product. If you did well on the take-home, you moved on to the final panel interviews, which were about 4 hours total. Two of those were technical – one discussing my take-home and another on A&D. The other two were about people and culture fit. Again, very relaxed and friendly, I was really impressed.
