First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Honda of America Mfg..
Software Engineer
The interview was pretty straightforward. The company seems to be managed well, though the compensation and location aren't ideal. They didn't ask any STAR-based questions, focusing instead on situational ones. Overall, it felt like an easy interview.
- Could you share some information about yourself and your background?
Software Engineer
I applied in October 2015, and it was a lengthy process. First, there was a pre-screen email with basic personal questions and some essay prompts. Then, I received follow-up emails to confirm my continued interest. In March, I got a phone call to schedule an interview. This call turned into an awkward conference call on speaker with five other people asking seven behavioral questions, which were easy. Afterward, my profile was passed to a Cyber Security department in Ohio, who were also interested in interviewing me, but this interview never happened. Days later, instead of hearing about the Ohio interview, I received an offer from Indiana for a CO OP, even though I originally applied for an internship. The HR structure was unclear and frustrating, as I thought I was going to Ohio. This interview had seven behavioral/scenario-based questions asked by five different hiring managers over the phone. Pay is credit-based, which is fair for students. They provide housing and a car.
- Why do you think you should work for Honda?
- Tell me about yourself and your extra circular activities?
- What did you dislike about your last internship and what would you change?
Senior Software Engineer
I applied through the job website and got an email from Honda R&D to fill out a questionnaire with 21 questions about salary expectations, visa status, years of experience, etc. After four months, the HR called and arranged a face-to-face interview (I didn't have a phone interview). The interview lasted about 80 minutes and was conducted by a manager, two tech leads, and HR. They asked about my previous experience details and some general behavioral questions. The interview wasn't too harsh and was good. After the interview, the HR said they would inform me after 2 weeks, so I'm waiting.
- Can you describe your experience with the entire development lifecycle, from initial development through to production delivery?
- What draws you to the automotive industry?
- Could you detail the processes and tools you typically utilize?
