Since I was a previous intern for Honda in the EGA department, HR asked me near the end of my term if I wanted to intern again. So, I was set up to interview for an Industrial Engineer position with HMA. I had one 1:1 interview with the manager of the department. He mostly asked about my recent experience and what I hoped to gain from this upcoming experience. He was really nice and went into a lot of detail explaining the job and even suggested a book to help me learn more about their processes!

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Describe a situation where you implemented a continuous improvement process, or had to revise an improvement more than once.
  • Tell me about a time you improved something more than once or implemented a continuous improvement process.

Behavioral Technical

I applied online via Honda of America's web site back in September 2009. A few days later, I got an email to set up a phone interview, which lasted about 25 minutes. The first 15 minutes were all about my experience and some situational questions, like how I'd get hourly workers to go along with a new rule from management. The last 10 minutes, the interviewer told me about the job and let me ask some questions. A few days after that, I got called in for an on-site interview with two other engineers. It was pretty similar to the phone one, but went deeper. They asked a lot of 'tell me about a time you...' questions and gave me the lowdown on Honda's culture and career paths. This second interview was about an hour long. I thought it went great, but no job offer came my way. I guess they hired someone with more experience. Oh, and Honda does credit checks for everyone, which in this economy might be another reason to pass on a candidate.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • How would you go about persuading hourly employees to adopt a policy from upper management?
  • Share an instance where you faced a setback, explain the reasons behind it, and detail your response.
