A staffing agency reached out about a contract-to-hire gig. First, I talked to the agency. Then, Honda Financial did a phone screen. After that, I had an in-person interview with Honda Financial. Didn't get the job, and they just said I didn't have the skills. Nobody from the agency or Honda followed up, even when I asked for more info.

Started out not knowing the company name, it was through a staffing agency, which was a bit of a surprise but exciting it was a big name. The first interview was mostly about making sure I could chat and be pleasant. Then I got the job offer! I like my agency, but Honda Financial doesn't hire you directly, you start as a temp worker. They make a lot of promises about making you a permanent employee later on, but don't keep them. After you've been there a while, Honda Financial will interview you for a permanent role, and they treat it like a real interview to get hired officially. The questions are specific, and they want you to use the S.T.A.R. method. Sometimes you hear back fast, other times it takes a while to know if you'll get the job, and some people have to interview several times to go from temp to permanent.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • For the temporary position, mostly behavioral questions.
  • For the permanent position, they want concrete examples from your time as a temporary employee, covering both behavioral aspects and your abilities.

I applied through the staffing company on Monday. On Tuesday, they called and said American Honda Finance wanted to interview me on Friday. Two interviewers were in the room with me. They took turns asking behavior questions. They were very nice, so it wasn't intimidating. The staffing company called me 30 minutes after the interview with an offer.

  • Can you share an instance of dealing with a challenging customer?
  • Tell me about a time you took initiative.
  • Describe a situation where you employed good judgment and logic to arrive at a decision.
