Applied online on the company website. Got an email within days to set up a phone screening. The person who did the interview wasn't the one I scheduled with because they were busy, which was a bit unexpected but the screening itself was okay. It felt like a culture screening where they asked about my experience, what I hoped to gain from the internship, and my working styles. About a week later, I was asked to interview with the manager in my department and set up a call. The call got rescheduled but went pretty well overall, it was a laid-back interview. I was told they'd decide that week, and I got an offer the next day.

There were two phone interviews before this: a screening and a technical one. The in-person interview was a bit different because it was scheduled for 4 hours. I thought I'd be wiped out, but I wasn't, mainly because everyone was really chill. What was also different was that the whole team was involved in the interview, not just the manager. The manager was the last person to ask stuff. I think they gave my resume to anyone who wanted to be part of it, which is a cool, democratic approach. The process included: meeting pretty much the entire team, technical questions from two different teams back-to-back, behavioral questions, and then a final chat with the manager.

Behavioral Technical

I had an intro call scheduled with HR, but they were sick when it came time for the call. The HR person couldn't answer basic questions about the role when I asked them, explaining they were covering for someone on leave and the Chicago office was understaffed (I was interviewing for Toronto, which was weird). The next step was a Zoom with the technical lead I'd be working with. They asked a mix of behavioral and technical questions. I think I messed up one of the behavioral questions, but they seemed interested and indicated I'd get a follow-up in a couple of weeks. A month later, I hadn't heard back, so I emailed HR and got no response. Even if they offered significantly more than the industry standard, I'd decline because of the red flags I saw about management from just those two interactions.

I applied to HomeX via Indeed and heard back a week later about a screening interview. It went well and the recruiter was nice. The next interview was with a team lead, who asked more behavioural questions. I didn't hear anything for two weeks, so I reached out on LinkedIn. They got back to me and scheduled a tech interview. However, nobody showed up for the scheduled virtual interview, and I waited around for a while. The next day, I finally got a response asking where my interviewer was. We rescheduled the tech interview, but I didn't make it through. The communication throughout the process was really bad and needs improvement, so I wouldn't recommend this company.
