Account Manager
I applied online through my University career center. About two weeks after applying, I got an email to schedule an over-the-phone interview. After that call, I went in for a face-to-face meeting with the branch manager. Once that was done, I had to set up another over-the-phone interview with someone from the headquarters in Columbus, OH. Lastly, I had a final face-to-face meeting where we mostly talked about the offer and got more details about the job.
- What made you want to start a career in sales?
Account Manager
Got a quick call with a manager first to talk about the job and set up an in-person interview. Then, a week later, I went into the office and met with that manager again, and a second manager. Both chats were about the company and the role, and also about me, like a typical resume rundown. They said I'd hear back in a few days. The next day, the second manager called. He said since I was going for a sales job with limited experience, he wanted to test my sales skills. He confirmed where I'm from and asked me to call him back in a bit, pretending he was a homeowner thinking about moving to my hometown, and I had to convince him to buy a house there. It really threw me off guard. After we hung up, I did some quick research and prep, then called him back with my pitch. After that impromptu role-play, he gave me some feedback and suggestions, and we set up a third interview for the following week. The last interview was with a third manager. This one was mainly about the company, the position, and career prospects. I got an offer about a week after that.
- Given your lack of extensive sales experience, what qualities do you possess that make you a suitable candidate for this sales role?
Account Manager
Someone from Insight Global reached out to me and set me up with an interview with the SVP. After a great conversation with Mark about ourselves and my resume, I got a tour of the offices and shadowed someone in the position I was applying for to get a good idea of the day-to-day. After that went well, I was invited back for a 15 minute panel interview in front of each and every manager in the Columbus office. They gave me 3 or 4 questions to speak answer for them and basically just sell myself on why they should hire me.
