I applied online and it took about a month to get an interview. I ended up speaking with 3 architects. They said they'd let me know within a week, but after two months and a lot of follow-up emails, I got an automatic rejection. It was pretty disappointing. I asked for feedback, and they said their needs had changed and they'd keep my info on file. It felt odd because it seemed like they should have told me about changing needs before deciding not to hire me. I was also emailing the architects directly instead of HR for responses, and I'm guessing it's standard practice for architects not to reply to people they interviewed.

So, the interview process at H.O.K. was pretty standard. I first applied online through their website. No external recruiter was involved, it was all HR from inside the company. After they reviewed my application, I was called in for an in-person interview at their London office. It was a good chance to meet the team and see what the company culture is like.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • I was asked to present and discuss my portfolio with the head of the landscape architecture team at the office.
  • It was a great opportunity to showcase my work, receive feedback, and better understand the team’s expectations and vision.

First a recruiter call about skills and timing. Then some informal sit-downs with principals, one included an office tour. If people were free at the same time, the interviews may have included both. Finally, a follow-up call from HR about the formal offer.
