Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hobby Lobby.
Head of Department
It was a pretty standard interview process, but I was surprised by a worksheet that required me to do calculations without a calculator, specifically finding the total price after a percentage discount.
- Could you tell me a bit about yourself?
Manager
Recruiter reached out, did a quick chat, and scheduled a phone interview. After that, I had an online assessment, mostly math-focused due to the company's limited tech. Then, the recruiter contacted me again to set up an in-person interview. This meeting was mainly about going over company policies and expectations to make sure I was okay with them. If you get past the initial screening and online test, you're practically guaranteed the job.
- Can you share your management experience with customer service and provide an example of a challenging project you managed?
- Describe a difficult project you handled, focusing on your management experience in customer service.
Manager
The interview took a total of two hours and required a two-hour drive to get there. It felt like the HR person was interviewing me so her supervisor could watch her work. They spent a good amount of time talking about the company and then gave me a really thorough tour of the store. It was a bit awkward because her supervisor kept taking notes on her and even corrected her a few times.
- Could you tell me about the most challenging aspect of your previous job?
- What motivates you to seek a new role at this time?
