& Process

First, they ask to introduce yourself. Next, they will ask you why you applied to Hitachi. Then, they will specifically ask why you applied for the specific department and research group you selected. Then, they'll ask you a question about what big social issue (e.g., behavioral change, Japan population decline) you want to resolve and how in your past experience, you managed to resolve problems that contribute to that big social issue. Lastly, they'll ask you to give a presentation of your research.

First, there was a phone call with HR. Then, I interviewed with the team manager, where we discussed my background and how I handle project planning and management. The last step was a research presentation, followed by a Q&A with the whole team.

I found out about Hitachi's internship program from some recruiters giving out flyers at a scientific company about full-time and internship AI roles. I emailed my CV, and a recruiter said it would go to the right research teams. Soon after, a research team got in touch and set up an online interview. The interview involved a brief presentation of my research to about 5-6 researchers. They then presented their research and the project I would be working on. The project seemed perfectly suited to my research background, indicating they'd reviewed my CV and proposed something I'd enjoy. They asked how I'd tackle the project and if I was interested. Within a few days, I got an acceptance notice, and later an HR person contacted me about the visa. I had a really positive experience with the interview, but I turned down the offer because the salary was much lower than other AI companies that had also offered me positions.
