They aim to be approachable, transparent, and collaborative, though they don't quite achieve it. The HR department seemed understaffed, but they did try to make it a positive experience. The assessment centre was a bit strange; it was mostly positive, except you knew you were competing against others. This was brought up, along with questions about the number of open roles given the group size. The response was an awkward change of subject and an emphasis on collaboration, which didn't sit well with some candidates and felt off given their emphasis on honesty. It's clear Hiscox values their employees and hiring decisions, but the execution felt a bit flawed. Some minor tech issues and disruptions due to staff holidays made the process longer than necessary and ultimately unsuccessful for me.

I was in an assessment day with four other people, from 9AM to 12:30PM. They said upfront that not all of us were going for the same job, which made it feel more relaxed. We had a group task with all five of us, and then three individual tasks. One of those was an interview with two managers who had different departments and seniorities. The tasks seemed really relevant to the job, nothing weird or confusing. Two junior people who weren't assessing us looked after the group and were really friendly, honest, and professional. The whole thing felt super transparent and accommodating. We were being tested, but no trick questions. Lots of chances to ask questions and show our strengths to the assessors, and no wasted time waiting around. The day finished with a building tour. I got a decision by phone call the same day. It was really well-run and a great intro to the company.

It was a fun style interview, with a mix of 4 activities designed to ease any worries. The recruiters were lovely, and all the staff made me feel very welcome. I observed people while they were working, which gave me a good insight into the job. There was a group activity with everyone else being interviewed. Then, a role-play call, which was different from the usual and quite fun. Finally, there was a 30-minute competency-based interview, but not the typical competency questions you'd expect.
