Graduate Scheme
So for the graduate scheme I had a recruiter call which was a brief informal interview. Then I did an online application with some written questions. After that, there was a Skype interview. They also had an online test, but they said it wasn't really for the job. The final stage was a full day assessment centre. Overall, it was a really good and well organised process. Everyone there had really strong work experience and top grades, and they came from all sorts of backgrounds like economics, engineering, and science. They did refund the assessment day costs, but it took a bit of chasing. All the staff were friendly and nice. I didn't get selected in the end, but it was still a positive experience for me. I think I wasn't the best fit for the role, so I'm not too upset about it. Good luck to the two people who got it. They only want the best for the graduate scheme, so make sure you're excellent if you apply!
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why are you interested in this role?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Graduate Scheme
You apply through a recruitment agency. First, there's an application with three short motivation questions, then some online psychometric tests. After that, you do a video interview with the recruiter, answering standard motivation questions about your knowledge of Hiscox and the role, plus competency questions about Hiscox's values. If you pass this, you'll have an interview with Hiscox.
- Tell me about a time you made a decision using multiple sources of information.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to be courageous?
- Explain a difficult university concept in a simple way.
Graduate Scheme
The application process started with a written application that included a few competency questions. This was followed by a Skype interview with a recruiter from an outside company. Then, there was an online test. The final stage was an assessment day, which included a group exercise with other applicants. After that, there were three 10-minute interviews with Hiscox employees, including hiring managers, HR, and current grads. These interviews were a mix of competency and personality questions. There was also a relaxed networking lunch where you could ask questions, especially to the current graduates. An analytical exercise involved reading data and presenting findings within 30 minutes; they want to see how you process data. Finally, there were one-on-one speed interviews, which were a fun way to get to know you and for you to learn about Hiscox. I found the whole process, especially the assessment day, really positive. It's a good way to show your strengths and see if you're a good fit for the role and Hiscox.
- In the 3 x 10min interviews, they asked competency-based questions to gauge your skills and understand how you handle problems.
- The speed interviews were more relaxed, asking things like 'describe yourself in 3 words' and 'tell me about something you have done that is not on your CV.'
