Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hippo Insurance Services.
Software Engineer
The interview process focused more on assessing culture fit and thought processes rather than typical tech interview questions. It included a Karat assessment, a phone screen with the hiring manager, and then an onsite interview. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. My only feedback is that their response times can be a bit slow, which might be due to their streamlined approach.
- Can you tell me about a project you previously worked on that you found particularly enjoyable?
Software Development Engineer
This was a really bad interview process. They used an external company for interviews, with interviewers located globally. These interviewers didn't seem to know much about the company and rushed through questions, expecting pre-canned answers. After many emails with HR, I still didn't get to speak with anyone from the actual company. The interview company seems to hire people from abroad who have no real stake in representing the hiring company and just want to get through the interview quickly.
- Can you design a news feed for Facebook?
Senior Software Engineer
After some phone interviews, I went to their office in Mountain View for the next stage. I had about 2-3 rounds with different people there. The coding interview with a senior engineer, who I think was also considered an engineering manager, was the worst part. He seemed friendly during the interview but then he almost insulted me in his comments to the recruiter after it was over.
