First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hindustan Petroleum.
Project Engineer
So the HPCL campus placement drive was in August 2024. It began with shortlisting students based on categories. On day one, they had a pre-placement talk (PPT) explaining their work culture, the job role, and what they expected. Then, they did document verification for the shortlisted folks. The next day was group discussion (GT), again split by category. HPCL picked 12 students from the GT — 4 each from SC/ST, OBC/EWS, and General categories, out of about 34 people. After the GD, they conducted personal interviews for the selected candidates one by one.
- Could you name a few electrical Public Sector Undertakings?
- What's the reason behind your drop year?
- What led you to choose electrical engineering as your field of study?
Engineer
I applied through the instrumentation department for what they advertised as a managerial role, but it turned out to be 70% HR and 30% core technical knowledge. There were 7 people on the panel, and they focused on my projects. Even though they said it was for a management position, they really wanted people with strong core engineering skills.
- Can you list the flowmeters utilized in the oil industry?
- Describe the process for calibrating a temperature measuring instrument.
- How would you go about measuring a change in mass flow?
Engineer
It was a pretty simple interview. They asked me questions about my personality and what I've been doing in college. I handled it comfortably. Even though my undergrad score wasn't great, I did well in the interview, which led to the offer.
