& Process

I went through three interviews. First was a quick call with the recruiter, then a 30-minute chat with a peer, and finally a 30-minute one with the hiring manager. The peer and hiring manager interviews were pretty standard, asking about past project experiences and behavioral stuff. The hiring manager seemed pretty checked out though, constantly texting and getting notifications, which was a bummer. I heard back the next day and didn't make it further.

It was a three part interview. The first part was with the director. It was about 30 - 45 minutes over the phone, and it was all about checking for personality since my resume apparently had enough technical details. The second interview was with my potential boss. It was an hour long and involved technical questions about how I would approach tasks A, B, or C without any assistance or the ability to ask questions. The third interview was with two leads, and it was semi-technical. It wasn't very deep or detailed; it was more of a personality check to ensure I was a good fit.

I had an interview set up on Google Hangouts, which was different, but I've used video platforms before. I got dressed and logged in for the Creative Director role, but the interviewer declined the video request and wanted to use IM instead. I thought 'okay, it's just the first interview, let's do it.' We ended up interviewing for over two hours. Some questions were good, but many didn't seem relevant to my role as a Creative Director or writer. Then I waited another half hour while she took my answers to a hiring team. She came back and offered me a job as an entry-level graphic designer. I mentioned I applied for Creative Director/Writer, and she said it was related, which I disagreed with. They wasted my afternoon interviewing for a job I was overqualified for and that wasn't related to my career.

I had a phone screen with an in-house recruiter, followed by several phone screens with the hiring manager. Then, I was brought in for a full day of interviews with various VPs, the hiring manager, some in groups and some one-on-one. After the process, the recruiter called and said everyone wanted me, and to wait for the next phase. A few weeks later, I got an email about year-end closing and scheduling something with an executive. Despite following up, I never heard back after 7 months. I'd already accepted a better role elsewhere, but wanted to warn others to be cautious about putting off other offers when told they're a serious contender.
