First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HII.
Systems Engineer
It started with a phone call where they asked me some basic questions about my work history and my technical knowledge about systems, Linux, and Windows. Then I had an in-person interview that was more focused on my technical skills with the Linux command line, compiling software, and troubleshooting approaches. I also got to ask a lot of questions during this part.
- Can you tell me what commands in RHEL you would use to check running processes or system resource usage?
- Describe how you would troubleshoot a host that is not responding to pings.
- Have you had experience reading technical documents, like interface specifications or interconnect drawings?
Systems Engineer
The interview was very technical and challenging. The interviewer wanted to make sure I was the right candidate for the job, which is why the interview was on the technical side rather than the STAR interview.
- Heavy on the military technical aspect of engineering.
Systems Engineer
About 3 weeks after applying online, I got a call to come in for an interview since I'm from PA. The interview was a one-on-one, and it was pretty straightforward. The manager was really friendly and primarily asked behavioral questions. These mostly focused on how I've handled situations in the past, like my role in previous group projects and how I dealt with difficult scenarios. It felt very casual, like we were just chatting rather than having a formal interview. I received an offer a week later.
- Can you describe yourself using just one word and then elaborate on your choice?
